FAP Auto’s focus is primarily directed at the motorsports industry. You will typically see us powder coat various parts of an automobile or motorcycle. However, we do take on other things like home decorations, chairs, restorations, fencing, etc. We also work in art, industrial, home and other industries.
Powder coating is applied on objects that can hold an electrostatic charge which is needed to affix the sprayed powder to the object. In other words, think of a magnet: The object is grounded in the best possible way and when the powder comes out of the gun it is positively charged, attracts and sticks to the part being sprayed. The object being sprayed needs to be able to handle the heat that is necessary to cure the powder and the powder will then melt and adhere to the object while being cured using a UV curing lamp or oven.
It’s common to think you can only powder coat metal due to the electrostatic charges necessary to attract the powder to the object but you will find these finishes on materials like wood, glass and plastics as well. These finishes are found everywhere from your appliances, computers, heavy duty machinery, doors, fences and much more. I bet you can look around you right now and point at something that is powder coated!
